D-MORE: Dynamic mesh-based overlay peer-to-peer infrastructure
نویسندگان
چکیده
Traditionally, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have to interconnect with content providers to provide network services to customers. Current business model that connectivity and bandwidth become commodities has motivated ISPs to distribute content and other application-specific services to their customers using their own infrastructure. It is desirable for ISPs to economize existing infrastructure to support a variety of applications and services. We propose a dynamic mesh-based overlay peer-to-peer infrastructure and illustrate its two examples usage cases among other potentials. We describe several key techniques, namely capacity classification, locality-awareness and incentive mechanisms for construction of the tiered infrastructure. Through extensive simulations, we show D-MORE scales well with an increasing number of hosts, in terms of control overhead, link stress and data path length, for supporting media distribution services. We propose further improvements to enhance the D-MORE performance, which brings up to 35% network resource savings and up to 200% control overhead reduction in our simulations.

Media distribution using overlay multicast and peer-to-peer technologies
The explosive growth of multimedia services and applications (e.g. media streaming) demands an efficient, deployable media distribution system on the Internet. Although native IP multicast is regarded as an efficient way of delivering media streams to a group of receivers, it faces a number of technical and operational issues which have eventually prevented its widespread usage. The aim of this...
متن کاملSOMA-E: Self-organized mesh authentication - Extended
Community mesh networks have emerged rapidly in every metropolis around the world, however many of the security methods applied are counter-intuitive and usually disrupt the autonomous characteristics of the mesh nodes. In SOMA we present a structured Peer-to-Peer solution providing authentication service based on a scalable, self-organized and fully distributed Web-of-Trust. Our proposal is a ...
متن کاملTAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network
Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...
متن کاملProviding content-based services in a peer-to-peer environment
Information dissemination in wide area networks has recently garnered much attention. Two differing models, publish/subscribe and rendezvous-based multicast atop overlay networks, have emerged as the two leading approaches for this goal. Event-based publish/subscribe supports contentbased services with powerful filtering capabilities, while peer-to-peer rendezvous-based services allow for effic...
متن کاملDynamic Operation of Peer-to-Peer Overlay Networks
Virtual overlay networks, such as virtual private networks or peer-to-peer services, can be seen as a new paradigm for providing multi-service networks. Virtual overlay networks may offer customized services to a specified community while providing a high degree of flexibility in the usage of shared resources. This paper examines the requirements of operating dynamic overlays, in particular, fo...
